How It Works

Embedded, Not Just Staked

A silt fence only works if the fabric is keyed into the soil. Sheet flow carrying sediment hits the fabric, sediment drops out and settles against the upslope side, and filtered water passes through at a controlled rate — instead of the fence simply blowing out at the base after the first real storm.

We install to SWPPP/NPDES specification: proper embedment depth, correct stake spacing, and J-hook terminations so water can't bypass the end of a run.

Is silt fence required on every construction site in Florida?

It's required on virtually any site with land-disturbing activity of 1 acre or more (or part of a larger common plan of development), under the Florida NPDES Construction Generic Permit. Most active commercial sites need it.

How often does silt fence need to be inspected?

At minimum every 7 calendar days, plus within 24 hours of a qualifying rain event. We document each inspection so you have records ready if an inspector asks.

What's the difference between silt fence and inlet protection?

Silt fence protects the site perimeter from sediment leaving the property. Inlet protection is a second layer that protects individual storm drains from sediment that gets past the perimeter — most sites need both.

How deep should silt fence be embedded?

The fabric needs to be trenched and keyed into the soil, not just stapled to the stakes — that embedment is what keeps the fence from blowing out at the base during the first real storm.

What happens if silt fence fails an inspection?
